Firstly, there were no snakes, but that was what Mystery DIY Man said to entitle this diatribe.
It has taken us an entire weekend but we have made it to the other side of the globe. Knowing it takes a full weekend makes you really appreciate quite how isolated our wee group of islands are.
It took us 4 flights to make it from Dunedin to Manchester and 4 different counties. I think the most depressing moment was taking off from Brisbane and flying for what seemed like hours to then realise we hadn’t even passed Darwin!
Cattle class is much the same as it always has been. Emirates fills you with loads of food, I swear I didn’t need all the food they plied us with. But some of it was delicious. There, I’ve said it now, delicious plane food.
Dubai was enlightening. It was 45° outside and yet the toilet seats were heated. I could possibly have understood in a cold environment but it was a bit of a shock.
Flying from Dubai to Manchester was quite classy. We were in an A380 with a whole row to ourselves so I could finally stretch out a bit. I found looking out the plane window to be much more interesting when there is something to look at rather than just sea.
After getting up at 7am on Saturday to start the journey we finally arrived at 12.30am Monday morning NZ time in Manchester. More about Manchester later.
