Sur le pont d’Avignon – I’m sure this might be familiar to a few people, especially those who learned piano with the Alfred books.
Well I’ve finally made it to Avignon in France, but I didn’t get a chance to dance on the bridge. Avignon is a lovely wee walled city famous for housing the pope (or 3 popes) in the 1400s for 74years. As we only had an evening here we went on a good explore, indulging in a sorbet and dinner.
Nearby is the famous Roman aqueduct, Pont du Gard which we visited this morning enroute to Barcelona. The aqueduct is completely free of mortar and is almost 2000yrs old. It is a very impressive looking structure.
Next stop Barcelona and hopefully some washing!
